Summary of Benefits

There are inherent problems with local ocular injections or implants which may cause notable side effects such as bleeding, infection, retinal detachment or inadvertent damage to the lens. The basic benefits of Visulex® are compared against some of the potential invasive or surgical procedure complications summarized below. Visulex® has distinct advantages over surgical or invasive techniques because it does not produce collateral tissue damage and may be administered at earlier stages of diseases before the retina has sustained severe damage. In designing our system, we have taken into account the easy insertion into the eye; how well it seals to the eye surface in a comfortable fashion; the use of biocompatible materials; and the importance of keeping the cornea hydrated and nourished.

Side Effect Risks with Invasive Procedures: Visulex® Offers the Following:
  • Conjunctival and vitreous hemorrhage
  • Ocular trauma
  • Lens damage during some procedures
  • Eye pain
  • Vitreous floaters
  • Increased intraocular pressure
  • Cataracts
  • Intraocular inflammation
  • Endophthalmitis
  • Retinal detachment
  • Poor access to the outer retina and choroid
  • Non-invasive, safe drug/device delivery system
  • Patient friendly administration
  • Easy to administer by staff
  • Controlled delivery: ability to titrate/customize dose
  • Sustained delivery from a non-invasive application
